Heather Cushman-Dowdee is the creator the the wildly popular comic Hathor the Cowgoddess, which can be seen at thecowgoddess.com.

Halfway through 2008, in a comic titled Uh…  Hathor read a news article that claimed that most women quit breastfeeding, if they even start at all. Well, she threw an absolute conniption fit and destroyed the cowgoddess mask that she had been wearing for almost 10 years. Reborn as Mama, she intends to fight all the same battles, taking on the corporate entities that make up the detachment-based parenting industry, battling the ’sacred cows’ of mainstream mothering (ie. formula, cribs, nannies, and day care centers) and all in all rabble-rousing in the name of breastfeeding, homebirthing, attachment parenting mamas everywhere. And yes, she bares her breasts, too.

Mama is… is the new comic based on Heather and her 3 unschooling daughters and her dearest husband as they go about their daily lives in a small house perhaps too full of people, but nevertheless just perfectly right.
