Hi all,
I have a bunch of comics planned, but am also enjoying the holiday too much to actually make them ;o) We’ve been playing Blokus and scrabble and chess and other fun things as well as eating more sugar filled treats than we have a right to, but all in all a fabulous holiday! I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow, but for now here’s a planned Facebook protest, TOMORROW, December 27th…
The free Internet utility Facebook, with its tens of millions of users,
still removes from its pages photographs of women breastfeeding, despite
complaints about that practice beginning well over a year ago. This
Saturday, December 27, two events will occur:1) A protest feed-in by breastfeeding mothers outside the Faceboook
headquarters: 156 University Avenue, Palo Alto, California. Time: 11 AM
to 2 PM.2) A virtual protest. Women and men on Facebook are asked to do two
things: post as their profile picture a photo of a woman breastfeeding a
child (it may also be a work of art, or a non-human mammal); and change
their status line to “Hey, Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!”These changes should be in place for the 24-hour period of December 27.

Facebook claims that breastfeeding photos are “obscene,” “pornographic,”
or “sexually explicit” if they show “an entire breast.” That’s Facebook
being dishonest, for they mean “a nipple.” But women’s nipples,
breastfeeding or not, are not obscene in California law; and in no state
are they obscene in photographs. In most places, of course, they’re not obscene even apart from
breastfeeding; whatever legal restrictions are placed against them don’t
use that word or the other terms with which Facebook demeans and
stigmatizes women. Facebook also claims that images of breasts harm children.TERA urges all on Facebook to participate in this protest, and any
breastfeeders near Palo Alto to go there in person as well.Thank you!
Love,
Heather

I don’t have any nursing pics of me, so Random Nursing Woman on Google, you’re now my Facebook profile picture. Wise up, Facebook!!
Already changed my pic to nursing my almost 3yr old and said “Dagny says, “Hey Facebook! Breastfeeding is NOT obscene!!!!!” I am a human mammal and I nursed my spawn”
If I was nursing my daughter, I would head up to Facebook immediately. But alas she weaned in August.
It got changed in LiveJournal after a lot of protesting. I hope we can in Facebook too.
I got my picture up
I can just imagine the apoplexy in FB HQ.
Rock ON!!
I don’t have facebook and their stance on this is why I won’t have facebook.
But those who already have accounts should indeed do this protest!!
Mine is up and hilarious.
My breastfeeding pic is up… and I’m telling all my friends here in Italy to do the same

Mine is UP!
Ha ha ha FB!
Mine is up. My DS nursing at 19 months. I’m VERY sad I couldn’t find one of him older than that though.
those hypocrites…you can easily find sexual images of breasts very easily on FB, but attach a baby and it’s obscene?!! Even George Orwell couldn’t imagine a finer bit of doublespeak.
There was a similar kerfuffle at another site–and the woman who was told that her nursing pictures were obscene simply replaced them with a slideshow of Maria Lactans. That is, paintings by Really Famous Dead People of The Virgin Mary Herself, with boobage firmly in the numph of Baby Jesus. Or occasionally hanging out in the plain sight of God and radar as Jesus sleeps in His mother’s arms. IIRC there is one where the Baby is nursing at one breast and playing with the other, as babies tend to do.
They backed down.
