Oooh! I want the hat one! Think of the benefits for baby: more vitamin D, better view of birds (early biology education) better view over crowds. lol. <3
Thank you for posting! I am all for good ole’ American Ingenuity, however when you take something that has worked for centuries (a baby sling) and try to change, enhance, mass produce – whatever to try and appeal to more markets, more often than not strange things happen. I also think common sense is a lost art BTW, don’t knock ‘baby in the back pocket’ till you try it…
Though I will say…since I have the Fisher Price Stay-in-View infant carseat that I think may have inspired the middle picture in the right hand column…that really is an AWESOME carseat that I wish was still made. Its lighter than the traditional baby-buckets, and lets you keep baby in a better ergonomic position when you are carrying baby in and out of the vehicle. And it really is the only infant carseat that let me put 3 kids across the backseat of a a mini-van. Traditional baby-buckets are wider.
Just get the baby out for some cuddles once you are inside…
?????? Sometimes I’m not sure if you FIND this stuff or just plain make it up as you go, but it’s Funny AND to the point! OF course someone will usually post a link to it.
Am looking for an older comic you did about a different “sling” with “safety features”. That thing was SCARY!
I actually had the carseat sling. It was easier than carrying the baby bucket when DS fell asleep in the car and I wasn’t going to be out long (such as taking him into my daughters’ school to pick them up and it would have been more disruptive to him if I’d woken him up to put him in the normal sling.)
It’s all in how it’s used. The “carseat sling” was a tool that I used occasionally, as an alternative to carrying the carseat, not as an alternative to normal babywearing!
Now, I have to ask: did your children inspire this comic with their “dollwearing”? My kids have worn dolls and stuffed animals in all sorts of ways that would be unsafe for real babies!
Heehee! Nothing like starting the day with cleaning off my computer screen!
This morning my 5-year-old went for my walk/run with me. I told her I was going to go fast because rain was moving in and was already on the other side of the city. She responded “I can lay over your head and keep your hair dry, Mommy!”
I guess she’d already thought of the Hat Sling herself! And I hadn’t seen this comic yet, LOL!
Oh, and I wanted to say: my son has those white rings around his pupils just like yours does. I knew the minute I saw him as a newborn that his eyes were going to be blue, even though they were deepest navy blue at birth, because his daddy has those same rings around his blue eyes. On the girls, it’s a gold ring surrounded by green, which gives the impression of grey or hazel at a distance.
cute pics! I have a maya wrap and another one (can’t remember the name, but it has the two rings.) I guess I am pretty stupid, because I can’t seem to get them right! I have successfully gotten my daughter (now 4 months) into the maya, but only happily once..she hates being belly to belly when she is awake, and for her to do anything more than cat nap, she has to be swaddled..so unfortunately babywearing hasn’t worked so hot for us..too bad, I was counting on it working well so I could use it while homeschooling my two 4th graders! Any ideas on getting her to enjoy the sling (not quite developmentally ready for face out) would be appreciated!
I remember when my wife showed me the strip about that giant bucket sling back in the day. I’ve never laughed and felt nauseous at the same time before. Thanks for the new experience.
Amen and well said! I think sometimes in the effort to make more money, what is best for baby gets pushed aside. Thank you for your bright and clever comics!
From a proud momma who stills wears her baby boy at 13 months!
Love this. I was tying my 1yo up by my boobs in a rebozo today, and randomly burst into giggles over the thought of putting her in my hat instead. We’re big fans of your comic here in our house!
Lovely! I dig it. If you are interested in putting the word out to your readers I’m hosting a Babywearing Celebration on my blog (http://www.lusaorganics.typepad.com). We’re sharing inspiring stories, pictures, and giving away safe carriers. I’d love to post your comic if you’d go for it (with a link of course).
Blessings,
Rachel

I prefer to keep my husband in my back pocket, personally. Still trying the wrap, but can’t seem to get him around my finger quite right.
Oh I love the comic! I am with Julie, I would rather keep the hubby in my back pocket and my baby at the chest!

I’m pretty sure the hat one is made up.

I wish you’d been able to show other good examples with slings… but I know… it can be hard to try to draw even the way you do with your baby…
I had to laugh at the first one as that is the one I see CONSTANTLY
I’m honestly surprised I’ve not seen the second one (baby on back facing out), but I can imagine you have.
This totally made my day!!! Thanks & happy babywearing!!!
The hat is killing me.
heheheheheheh…..no one noticed the nursing nipple? Awesome, so to true and to the point
I love that her nipple is exposed in the last one! Too bad it’s hard for a baby to nurse when facing out!
Love this.
