Hi all,
Want the new book? : Simply Give Birth
I just re-loaded a bunch more comics on thecowgoddess.com. Before, they were cycling every couple of days, but now that I dismantled the archives (sorry! It doesn’t mean that I don’t love you!) I figured they might as well go out every single day. Why not? There are literally HUNDREDS!
Because I’m a little bit bored (Please don’t be worried though, I am working on comics and a new zine-y book is on it’s way!) I thought I’d share a little bit of things that are on my mind.
Here’s some books that I’m reading (check my amazon store on the right to see more ;o) (yes, multiple, I read whatever is closest to the chair I’m in ;o)
Persuasion by Jane Austen
(I’ve just finished Mansfield Park and have gone through them all, except Northanger Abbey, that’s next ;o)
No Impact Man
this book is really really great and I’m thinking about taking the no impact challenge. Here’s the guide...and the trailer!
I’ve also got a small pile of books by Derrick Jensen
by my chair, I started with Thought to Exist in the Wild. One night as I was mulling over some of his thoughts, my husband and I turned on the comedy channel and watched Katt Williams do some stand-up. It struck me that one of Katt Williams rants was the same as this book about the nightmare of zoos! And so I sent a fan letter to Mr. Jensen telling him about Mr. Williams. I like the thought of the housewife in LA, writing to the intellectual philosopher in Northern California about the rapper-style comedian in DC. The computer makes it a small world.
It’s completely off topic, but funny!
Here’s the stand-up that inspired my letter to Mr. Jensen. This is so full of cussin’ that little children should probably be miles away or at least asleep in your arms ;o)Katt Williams Killed by a Tigerand speaking of videos that you can only watch when the kids are out of the room, here’s one that’s making the rounds (please don’t hold me responsible for content, if your eyes bleed at the sight of whiskey drinkin’ women don’t click on this link!):Housewife Rap
hee hee hooooo! Now everyone will wonder if that jar of iced tea I carry around is really just a jar of iced tea! (it is, but it’s still funny ;o)
Anyway, now baby is up from his nap- So I should go and visit.
xox,
Heather
ps. baby’s on his fourth tooth!

Four teeth already! It’s gone by fast!
My 16 month old still only has six teeth, but he’s the size of a two year old already. (28lbs on breastmilk alone until 14 months!)
I’m glad you posted a little about what’s going on with you! I’ve missed reading your musing while nursing my little guy!
::HUGS::
I am working with “at risk” teens right now who prefer watching rappers on youtube over the work they are supposed to do on the computer. The next time one of them asks me if I drink or smoke dope (most don’t ask me things like that, but some just like to hear themselves talk. They know I’m pregnant too.) I am so tempted to refer them to that link and say, “yeah, that’s totally me.” Too funny. But I should probably resist and encourage them to get back to work.
Four teeth!! My daughter didn’t get her first tooth until she was 11 months old.
Gonna go watch Katt now.
It is funny to see No Impact Man on your list because I just finished Sleeping Naked is Green and she consulted with No Impact Man often during her own challenge. I was thinking of moving on to his book next. The other book I just read that was similar in style to Sleeping Naked is Green, was The Big Turnoff. Neither book was at all what I expected but I found them both to be really entertaining.
man, 4 teeth! mine was born shortly before yours, and still nothing! oh well, don’t have to worry about food flinging yet i guess ;o)
congrats on the book!
i’m in of your in! (although i think i would still be driving to work as we live 20 miles one way from work and it is already in the 30’s here! lol no riding a bike to work at 5:30 am. lol)i would be happy to walk around town, shop at the farmer’s market, continue to compost, no shopping… heck i could do that for alot longer then a week.

Hi Heather,
I spent some time yesterday with the guide to doing the challenge, and I was thinking about looking through the blogs to see how many people have been doing it with multiple children. Changing diets, tv habits, electricity habits, water habits is something that will require their cooperation. I wonder if anyone is talking about family strategies?
Transportation will be tricky with 6, here in Los Angeles a bus ride to the library is $5 each way. I kid you not!
xox,
Heather
ps we should all do it together, see what we can do with a family!
Hi Julie, your teens will love it if you recommend some katt williams to them, his ‘my son is riddlin’ is pretty good too.Get them to watch killed by a tiger and then get them to read the derrick jensen book, you’ll rock their world ;o)
xox,
Heather
i would totally be interested! i would be interested in what people in really cold climites did/do. it won’t be too long before we are up to our eyeballs in snow (literally. last winter 90 inches of snow! LOL)i get you about the bus ride. when we lived in tucosn i looked into be car free and for us to get bus passes it was going to be about $250 a month. eeek!
maybe we could be the people talking about family strategies… how many mamas/family herew would be up to the challenge for a week? we could blog about it… i will have to look over the website this weekend.

phew, thanks for uploading more frequent hathor fixes, i needed it. hopefully i’ll manage to reclaim some sanity over the next few days. on behalf of my children, thankyou!
Hi Mum-raa,
glad to be of some service, if a little humor keeps mama in a better mood then laugh, mama, laugh! I’m putting your books in the mail this afternoon, with love,
Heather
I just got my (autographed!) copy of “Simply Give Birth” in the mail last night and basically ran around the dining room squeeeing. I meant to only read one story and then one more and before I knew it, I’d been reading in bed for two hours and I’d finished the book. Love it! (and you.)
I can’t wait to pass this around to my pregnant friends. Thank you for collecting such amazing, powerful stories into such an awesome book.
Hi Sara, thanks for the review (one of the firsts!) I’m going to paste it over on simplygivebirth.com. You’re famous!
xox,
Heather
Just ordered my copy — can’t wait to see it. Thank you for the amazing work you do.
–D.
I just received “The Milk of Hathor” and would like to say that I’m enjoying it.. but I can’t get it away from my husband! He’s going to finish it before me!!
He’s a super dad, but I could not get this guy to read one parenting or child development book.
Now he’s reading “Hathor” to our five year old, who wants to know why Hathor sleeps in just her underwear.
Thanks.. from the whole family.
I won’t be surprised if I get more books for “my birthday.”
hi heather,
so excited that your book is out, my mama libary is growing! I am lovin that it’s uc focused too, my first (and only as of yet) son was born completely unassisted into my own hands when i was 17. I felt quite alone even in the natural birthing circle in my town, inexperienced and naive. Looking forward to reading this, will order asap!
Have you read ‘as the world burns’ you and stephanie are my comics book heroines!

well the family and i are doing the no impact week. should be fun and it is giving me loads of stuff to think about.
Hi Linden,
Oh! http://www.amazon.com/As-World-Burns-Simple-Things/dp/1583227776
that looks good, you recommend? I’ll buy it!

Heather,
I’m so proud of you! I got so caught up in dreaming about doing it that I scared myself out of trying. I’ve been more conscious this week about waste and stuff, but unless I jump in and try it full tilt I’m just coming across as ‘bitching’ and ‘nagging’ to the others in the family. I can definitely see the use of having it be a family ‘project.’ the kids said all but ‘hell no’ at first, but some things they can get behind like no electricity, it’s like camping. But no tv? no computers? missing halloween parties? I’m going to have to sell them on it! But, i can already see them getting excited about the idea.I’ll be following your progress!
xox,
Heather
Hi Julie,
That’s so cool that your superhero/husband is enjoying the book and reading it to the kids, can I put your post as a review on the milk of hathor page?
xox,
Heather
Sure.
