The Zoops!

Get the Pregnancy Shield Quick!

Because I’m in the homestretch for this pregnancy, I am starting to notice the frequency that negative thoughts begin to creep in. Position? Preparation? Have I done enough of the right things to make everything go the way I want? The unknown looms closer…and the abyss.

On the other hand, because this is my fourth, I have almost no fear of any unknown. I feel glorious and elated and still really really good.

And then again, if I feel this good, does that mean that I’m being naive?

And then again, aren’t positive thoughts really what it all come down to?

It’s the dichotomy of pregnancy.

Here’s one of my favorite birth quotes (note to self, post this on the mirror ;o):

“women’s bodies were designed to birth. that’s a simple fact. you were designed to birth naturally. no experience or training neccessary. there’s no special esoteric mystery about it. it’s a very simple every day fact of life. millions of women have done it for millions of years. it’s a tremendous blessing but it’s also completely ordinary and normal and not only for a special few. you can do it too. i have absolute trust in that.” – Ingrid Bauer

  • Is it a coincidence or brilliant planning that you’re having some anxieties on thecowgoddess too?

“if I feel this good, does that mean that I’m being naive?”

this is one of my most persistent worries. it’s so stupid!

This is my second UC and I’ve been amazed by how stressed I’m *not* about the birth. I have some irrational fears about something being wrong w/ the baby (I know two women who had stillbirths within the past 14 months) BUT my gut tells me those are irrational. I know I’m ready and everything is going to go really well.

  • that’s a fantastic quote. when i start teaching childbirth classes, i’m going to print that out on little cards & give them to every mother in her class packet.

I LOVE that quote!!!!!!!!! How relaxing. :)

  • I remember how it is… and though I look forward to having my 4th… getting pregnant again and having another UP/UC… I know that those feelings will creep up again…

What I noticed with having a UC is that the “what if’s” have the extra weight of giving birth in a non-convential way…

My favourite thing to do was read positive birth stories, watch positive birth videos…

I also found pure joy in filling up my birth pool with warm water and doing “test runs” in in the living room with a good movie and a pint of Ice Cream…

One thought that I’ve had on this topic – our friends the cats and dogs give birth unassisted all the time and complications are rare! (Well, some that have been bred into unnatural configurations have problems and need help.) Their bodies are designed for it to just happen. And ours are too!

God makes Mommys. People make doctors.
Which engineer would you trust more?!

I know it’s good to trust your body, but it also helps to trust the baby. It’s like breastfeeding, kind of.. trusting the baby… Talk to the little one about what is worrying you. I did.. except I don’t think I discussed my fear of pooping on the doctor. But as I would talk to her about the good and bad things about the little world she’d enter into and about my hopes and fears, I started to feel more like a team. And it helped me to articulate and work through things that were really all about the two of us.

    Hi Heather,

I am also pregnant wth my fourth and this will be my third UC, and I recently had someone say something stupid to me (that got through my shield) which is nothing compared to things I’ve gotten in the past but for some reason I am having the hardest time shaking.

I don’t have any particular advice, but had to write because I just experienced this exact thing and I am actually shocked at how much it’s affected me. I try every time to just visualize my perfect birth and release whatever this person’s comment brought up, but it’s weird how the littlest thing can still get you, you know?

Hang in there, you know your body and you know your baby and you are doing EVERYTHING RIGHT FOR YOU TWO!!!

    Love,

    KS
