i’m glad it didn’t actually happen. i don’t think the fact that it was a made up story will affect how nursing moms in public will be seen, so thats a good thing…. maybe. it is very sad that the lady felt the need to fabricate a story like that.
if i were you, i’d laugh, then put on some jack johnson, then have a little dance, read a bit of tom and have a beer (providing it’s not breakfast time!). there are plenty of nutters around…. it’s not your fault and as my husband said, it could have happened – although there is a law in the uk now against people preventing a mother breastfeeding her baby in public (although it’s pretty half-hearted as it only applies to a baby of 6 months or under, but it would have applied in this instance).
keep up the good work, the world needs you!
Great. Now we’re all going to look like crazies. Oh wait, we already do. I guess it doesn’t affect much, then! Since you can’t sigh, I’ll do it for you! *sigh*
Ah Lara You know me so well! hee hee, that’s actually exactly what I did, except i had a glass of wine. You have to come visit soon and share with me.
Here’s the exact formula:
Jack Johnson En Concert album, loud.
mama’s silly dance with all kids.
Either Tom Hodgkinson’s The Idler magazine issue #42 Smash the System or Jaron Lanier’s You Are Not a Gadget
and Red Truck’s Syrah
Hee hee! I just bought that for my husbands birthday last thursday! in preparation for going to see him live, here in the uk, in june! ON OUR ANNIVERSARY NO LESS! can’t wait….
by the way, tom’s very likely to be at port eliot again, he’s best buddies with the wife of the son of the earl…. well you know what it’s like in english aristocracy! hop in a rowing boat, you should make it by july!
Yeah, I’m pretty mixed about this too. On one hand, I’m glad that she didn’t have to endure the public humiliation, etc. On the other I’m upset on a number of levels. I’m upset that the nursing community could be made to look even crazier than we already do (not saying we ARE crazy, just often perceived as such, unfortunately.) I’m upset that the poor bus driver I’m sure underwent some turmoil, even if it was only for a short time, as it seems the company was pretty on top of getting things figured out. I’m upset that she still maintains that it happened the way she accounts it; the small paranoid of authority part of me wonders if perhaps it really DID happen and this is just a huge, ridiculous cover-up.
Part of the original article did kind of bother me though. It seemed kind of patronizing at the end when it claimed that she had to take a cab home and it cost her $8. Was it just me who took it that way?

I’m so with you on the mixed emotions thing…..Happy it didn’t happen & sad that someone would DO such a thing, for whatever her reasons were!
