We live in South America and I *adore* the freedom with which mothers here feed their babies (and toddlers!) I recently saw a lady nursing on the public bus–she was sitting on the wheel well (raised part of the floor) originally, and someone offered her a seat, so she was able to sit a bit more comfortably. It was so lovely.
Actually in England (which is the only place I can find such a story) it is illegal for public health workers to even SUGGEST you give up breastfeeding……..So I can only imagine the problems for this driver if he DID do such a thing!
Huh. This story is getting weirder.. Well, at least it sounds like all parties involved agree that it’s not cool to kick a nursing mother off a bus. That’s good. Kind of boring, but good. Oh, England. Lets go back to critiquing France and the US. Much more exciting.
Even if she was a nutter, reading the comic, it was easy to believe. That’s the truly sad part. I’ve stopped nursing my two year old son in most public places because of the weird looks I get – and I live in a very liberal part of the country!
@JJ
Sorry to hear about the weird looks you get. Please keep nursing your toddler in public – we can nurse in solidarity! Yesterday I nursed my toddler on the public bus (while wearing a business suit, btw) on the way to work/day care – nobody looked twice. I thought “wow, we’ve gotten so progressive/normal around here!” It was great. Probably it was just that no one noticed…but still it was great!
JJ, I went through a period with my daughter when I stopped nursing in public too. I didn’t mind getting the weird looks, but I minded HER getting the weird looks. I didn’t want her to pick up and internalize those vibes. I remember that being a good time to place a few limits on nursing too (she’d often nurse out of boredom instead of playing and I wanted to change some habits). But I went back to nursing in public once she was old enough to understand two things: 1. Mommy sometimes likes extra privacy when it comes to her breasts and 2. some people weren’t nursed very long, or at all, and don’t understand nursing and so they aren’t comfortable with it so they might react oddly and that’s OK – they’ll get used to it eventually. By three years old, she was a little lactivist herself, but very understanding if I asked her to wait or go to a different place to do it. I did kind of like closet nursing and then getting compliments on her behavior and her looks from someone who didn’t know she was not weaned and responding with something like, “I think it’s because she’s still nursing.”
Is this about the mama in the UK?
Yep.
That’s horrible. Thank goodness the company is not defending the driver.
So sad.

Keep up the good work here, Mama!
Oh, I should have explained that I was standing, so didn’t have an opportunity to give up a seat!
that’s horrid.
actually the company IS defending him, and it looks like this gal was a nutter who made it all u p!

The Story I have yet to see an article or story claiming she lied. If someone has a link please post it.
Thank you!
Found the link saying she is possibly making it all up.
