Hi all,
Well, at our house, the one-two punch of coughs and snotty noses built up in my littlest one, and yesterday she coughed more than she breathed, or played, or talked. So we took her to a walk-in clinic and after 4+ hours! Got a diagnosis of pneumonia (a little bit) and an antibiotic. We got home just before bed and I gave her the antibiotic and voila! slept all night without coughing once. This is good because I have the tendency to second guess everything, so it’s nice to know that it was exactly what she needed. Plus, we all needed some sleep. Except for me, apparently, I woke up same as always for a few hours in the middle of the night, just to stare at the ceiling. Ah, the joys of pregnancy!
And, while I’ve been away with the Florence Nightingale stuff, this happened!

and Salma Hayek breast-feeds an African baby
SALMA Hayek was so taken aback by the plight of an African woman in Sierra Leone who was unable to breastfeed her child that the star breastfed the newborn herself.
The incident was captured on camera by a television crew from US TV show Nightline whom Hayek allowed accompany her on the goodwill trip in September.
Nightline has aired the footage on their program and YouTube clips have been circulating the internet, prompting a divisive response from bloggers and parenting websites.
The 42-year-old actress, who was nursing her own daughter Valentina at the time, offered to help when the baby’s mother stopped producing milk.
“The baby was perfectly healthy, but the mother didn’t have milk. He was very hungry. I was weaning Valentina, but I still had a lot of milk that I was pumping, so I breast-fed the baby.
“You should have seen his eyes. When he felt the nourishment, he immediately stopped crying,” said Hayek.
The actress and UNICEF spokesperson visited the West African country in September as part of her involvement in the fight against tetanus, one of the reasons Sierra Leone has the highest infant and child death rate in the world.
I loved the way she talked about breastfeeding in this one…way to go Salma!
xox,
Heather

For sleeping, I always loved my Hypnobabies CD’s. They would put me right to sleep. If you don’t want to do the whole program, they do have a Peaceful Sleep Now CD or MP3 download.
YES!
and I love the comic BTW!

It’s a great thing but why does the article refer to it as an “incident”? Like it’s a toxic spill or something!
LOL SC I thought the same thing about the word “incident”. And too bad that she’s weaning her baby! Wish she would let hers self-wean. But hey, at least she was able to nurse that baby. But I have to ask, what’s going to happen to that baby now that Hayek isn’t there to nurse him?
That made me cry. I remember after the China earthquake I read about a Chinese policewoman who was nursing 8 babies plus her own. That was so touching I wanted to adopt one of those babies so I could nurse him/her along with my own infant daughter…
Hooray for Salma!
… and of course YouTube took away the video. It’s not just Facebook who’s scared of nursing…
