Congratulations Heather!!!! It will be wonderful to watch your pregnancy progress through your comics! They’re certain to be extra special too, since pregnancy gives us that certain “oomph” of insightfulness and creativity.

I’m so happy for you and your family. :)

    Heather,

I want you to know how much you have meant to me and my development as a mother. I had my first child at 17 in a hospital and nothing went the way I expected it to. I was given an IV, drugs, and threatened that if I didn’t go into “labor” soon, I would be given a C-section. (I was pretty sure the leaking fluid meant I *was* in labor, but what did I, the lowly 17 year old woman know compared to the big educated male doctor?)

My second child was born when I was 19, again at a hospital. I was induced against my will and because the pain was so awful, my S.O. signed an epidural form and I was given that against my will as well. I hated the experience.

Thankfully, I was strong willed enough to breastfeed both kids–the first for 9 months and the second for a year.
It was during this time that I found your cow goddess site…

I felt reborn. I finally understood why I hated the hospital and why I was so strong willed with the breastfeeding. It clicked for me.

So, when I got pregnant with my third child, I found a birthing center… because there were no midwives in my area… and because I was too scared to do it at home alone.
My third child, was born at the center, in my time, not a doctors. I had no drugs, I breastfed right after he was born, before *I* cut his cord. I even pulled him out. It. was. THE. DEFINING. EXPERIENCE. of. my. motherhood!

With my fourth child, I found a midwife. I thought about doing another birth at another center…. but in the end, I wanted to be at home, where my other three children were.
And that was what I did. That birth, changed me. I no longer feel like I am incapable of doing anything… (really, I take on the world, all the time. and it doesn’t phase me)

I think that my birth and abilities as a mother, have been helped along by you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

    Thank you.

  • Jeanette

  • What wonderful news! Congratulations!

  • amy

    CONGRATULATIONS!

Even though I don’t have any children, I’ve been reading your comics for years because I share many of your parenting philosophies and find you a great source of information.

Now, I’m 13 weeks pregnant and you’re pregnant, too! Even though we don’t know each other personally, I’m so excited that we’ll be going through it all together! Yay for mamas!

  • Congratulations! I wish the best for you and your baby ;-) Do you wish for a boy this time?

  • christine

Super big congrats! My womb is so jealous.

  • Kelli

Congratulations on this new blog, and on your pregnancy, how exciting!

  • good, now i don’t feel alone, lol.
welcome back to the world of nausea and back pain, teehee.

  • Nicole

Congratulations! Can’t wait to see what Mama is brings and who the new little one is.

  • Kathleen

Heather, congratulations on your dual new adventures – a new comic with a new persona PLUS a new baby! That is all so exciting.

I love the new persona already – she’s so bold and strong and beautiful, like Anu, the Celtic goddess of fertility. (Did you know that there is a mountain in County Kerry named for her? It’s called Dá Chích Anann or “Breast of Anu”! Don’t you love it?)

And I know we are going to love sharing the adventures of your new pregnancy and then your new baby. I’ve always felt I sort of know your girls since you’ve portrayed them so often and so distinctly, each with her own personality, her own likes and dislikes. Such great girls! Are they excited about a new one coming to join them?

I’ll always be glad we knew Hathor for so long. HER goddess aspects were so important to all of us too. Thank you for giving her to us. It’s not goodbye we say to her, but fare thee well.

    Thanks again.
    Kathleen

P.S. Congratulations to Super-Hero Dad, too! Will he similarly become unmasked in this new comic? People want to know… Lol!

  • Slingnmom

Congratulations! You announced on my birthday!

BTW Those efficient light bulbs are FILLED with mercury so if they break then your family can be exposed to mercury! Did you know that?!

  • Well gosh, I’m behind on visiting websites, and look what happens while I’m away.

Enormous congratulations! You were just saying at that last dance class park day that you were feeling broody! Ask and ye shall receive, eh?

See you very soon at Penny’s.

BTW Jayn has a “boy” feeling.

Much love (and a little envy) from
    Robyn C.

  • How exciting! I just found out I’m pregnant too, probably about as far along as you are.

  • I wish this big online community of mamas could all teleport to one location for a wonderful park date of nursing and loving and singing and dancing and general living. I think we should arrange a conference or something. There just aren’t enough of us all in one place. I’m 11 weeks pregnant with my third, and my baby is six! My mammary glands are literally aching for the nursling! Meanwhile, all is well in the lives of the unschooling big boys, 10 and 6, who just hate it that we have outgrown our bed. I’m thinking of 2 mattresses on the floor for at least a few months with the new baby. Congratulations, Heather! Much love to you and yours!
